PSYCHOTHERAPY & CONSULTATION

About Kathryn

Hello!

Many of us contemplating therapy for the first time want to make sure that the counselor we’ve chosen is a skilled and experienced professional. For this reason, I have included the following information so that you will have a sense of this even before we meet.

About

As a seasoned counselor, I have worked in agencies, hospitals, rehabilitation centers and schools for over 25 years, focusing for the past 15 years on a private practice with offices in Brattleboro VT, Amherst MA, and most recently the charming Willard Beach area of South Portland, ME. I currently hold licenses in both Maine and Vermont, and a national certification as an Addictions Specialist. My graduate work and MSW are from Rutgers University, with a BA from Duke University. In addition to my psychotherapy practice, I have taught numerous seminars and courses in psychology, counseling and social services at Southern Maine Community College, the University of Southern Maine, Community College of Vermont, and Keene State College.

It is my belief that each of us has our own unique path; our own set of challenges, traumas, skills and strengths. Because of this, I find that an individualized approach to therapy, tailored to meet your own specific circumstances to be most effective in fostering healing and providing support for making changes. Depending on your personal wishes and goals we may choose to include cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-oriented therapy, narrative therapy, Imago, EMDR, and utilize techniques based on mindfulness or biofeedback. In all cases, it is crucial that your wishes and comfort for your own pace, telling your own story, and exploring your own feelings and thoughts be honored, respected and valued.

On a personal note, you may see me out visiting a local Farmer’s Market or hitting tennis balls with friends, biking between lighthouses along the beautiful Maine coast, or hiking with a joyous and wise canine companion.
